The environmental issues can be resolved through sustainable development. Targeted action of the society in the individual countries, Europe and the world is the way for achieving sustainability.

The definition of sustainable development given by the UN World Commission on Environment and Development remains valid and timely: "Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." The principle of sustainability implies a balance between social equality, ecological compatibility and economic effectiveness.

Key roll for building a public awareness of environmental protection plays the enhancement of the ecological culture of the citizens and the knowledge in the field of the sustainable development.
